By the time he finally catches a glimpse of a break he's basically ready to explode and the deep stress he undergoes to get there - is very similar to the kind LGBT+ individuals suffer in real life. It can strike really close to home if that's so.Ryder is emotionally intelligent enough to own up to his own mistakes in the situation, especially when it comes to understanding his own sexuality and Jed's. In many ways he tries to hold everything together and it keeps falling apart, but here at least, there comes a point where it's not worth trying to keep it together anymore and that's okay, because you can still be happy.I think that's all important and relatable but the subject matter was definitely heavier. I loved reading it, but it's definitely not a light romance, it's tumultuous and twisted and things don't necessarily go well even if there is a HEA. It's a ride- and I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for that kind of thing!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Not ready to say goodbye. :(By BuoyancyThe Plot:If you read the Guns n’ Boys series, Jed and Ryder will be familiar to you. However, you don’t have to read GNB to read this story. *Although I really think you should give that series a try as well. :)*Jed and Ryder are step-brothers and Coffin Nail members. Both have spent years denying their attraction to each other. Due to this denial and the evil-witch Dana, Jed reaches his breaking point and his breaking point is absolutely heartbreaking. Luckily, Ryder is there to rescue Jed from the edge.Even though their relationship goes from zero-to-sixty, it fits. The feelings have always been there, now they are finally acting on them. Apart from navigating their new relationship, they have to deal with blackmailing witches, keeping their club afloat, homophobic club members, and how to maintain their relationship without constantly hiding it. Their journey may have been filled with ups and downs and some angst. However, by the end, all the feels that were dealt were well worth it.The Characters:Jed: Damaged, cocky, and reckless. Yet, he loves Ryder deeply and is willing to sacrifice his own happiness to ensure Ryder’s happiness.Ryder: Ambitious, responsible, and protective, pretty much the exact opposite of Jed. When it comes to Jed, he is willing to go to extremes to protect him.Final Thoughts: This book was well worth the tortuous wait. Fans of K.A. Merikan and the series will absolutely love One Step Too Close. Even though I LOVED this book and devoured it every chance I had, I am sad. Sad to say goodbye to Jed and Ryder, I’ve grown a little attached to them and I’m not ready to say goodbye.
