I was completely absorbed in it. The characters were rich, mysterious, fallible, and real. No shying away from a bit of controversy and some kinks not perhaps held by all. While this book has BDSM it is not about it at all. No BDSM 101 here. It's all about personalities and circumstances and what happens when you discover what you thought is not what is. There is evil here - and it comes from places perhaps you won't expect. There is redemption of a sorts - there is great drama that hooks you in and just propels you forward. It's not a romance - but it sorta is. I think that's what so cool about it. You delve deep here - in what things people are capable of but it's not overly gritty. Matter of factual more. It's a great length - bit of swashbuckling and even great female characters who get some "screen time". I'm not usually much for historicals but this is a very meaty book with a lot going on. The writing really shines - very smooth, great structure, and the erotic parts are erotic but this is not even close to too much sex not enough action. There is plenty of both here to satisfy anyone.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.PhenomonalBy Tracy HWhen I heard that Bey Deckard was releasing Caged: Love and Treachery on the High Seas in audio I just about fell over in excitement! I first read this amazing book in December 2014 and I remember how captivated I was by the story.Bey Deckard has created a lavishly rich world full of sailing ships, grand adventures and a little bit of kink to heat things up.There is so much to love about Caged and the most notable that stick out in my mind are its three main characters. Jon, Captain Baltsaros and Tom.Young Jon lives a sheltered life beholden to his stepfather. Jon has the unique talent of being an empath and his stepfather uses that talent over and over to keep his tiny town safe - and Jon under his thumb. When Jon gets sent to the local tavern on an errand he ends up being kidnapped by Captain Baltsaros. The narrator, Michael Ferraiuolo, is a new narrator to me and I can say for certain that he’s snared another fan.Ferraiuolo captures each character so distinctly it’s absolutely amazing to hear him perform!I am completely smitten with his voice for Tom. As I finished a chapter with “Tom’s” voice I went back and listened to it again. Michael’s accent for Tom is perfect and embodies each of his characteristics, bringing Tom to life. I could catch all of the different inflections in his voice...when Tom is mocking Jon you can even hear the humor. And Tom’s interactions with Baltsaros are titillating, edgy and kept me wanting more. The thing I appreciate most about Baltsaros is that he’s got layers. There’s an air of mystery and secrecy that surrounds him and the longer Jon is with him the more he comes under that power. I love hearing Jon flourish and stumble under the Captain’s attentive eye and he really grows as a man and a character. The listener is always left wondering just who Captain Baltsaros really is. What drives him to do the things he does and what his reasons are.It takes a skilled narrator to capture a character and, in my eyes, Michael Ferraiuolo did just that with his portrayal of Captain Baltsaros; displaying his very essence. The Captain has an inner confidence and skill and is also a very sexual man. Listening to Michael speak as the Captain made me feel like I was actually on board Baal’s Heart with the crew. Baltsaros’ interactions with Jon are at times deeply sensual and I could hear that tone throughout Ferraiulo’s narration. Each man in this tale has demons and I loved learning about all of them as well as getting a chance to live in their heads. Jon is an innocent and has been sheltered all his life. Tom has a painful past. And Captain Baltsaros lives with secrets and harbors a fascination for the “darker” things in life. The character's are written in a way that the listener cannot help but fall in love with each man; and when all three men come together it’s powerful and beautiful.Adding to all this magic is the fact that the erotic moments between all three men are very sensual and sexy. No doubt about it, Bey Deckard certainly knows his way around writing a menage scene.Deckard creates an elaborate stage with his descriptive words and intriguing main and secondary characters. These aren’t your typical pirates, meaning they’re not all about raping and pillaging. Our lovely Captain Baltsaros seems to have an agenda and the author’s writing grabs you and quickly immerses you.Caged has many twists and turns and Bey does an outstanding job crafting the “pirate world” and setting it up for further adventures. I genuinely hope that Mr. Ferraiuolo continues with the Baal’s Heart series. He brings such energy and warmth to Bey’s tale and kept me thoroughly engaged the entire time. This is definitely worth listening to again!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Sex, Lies, Betrayal, Love, Psychopaths Didn't think I would like this and ended up loving it and the flawed characters.By SciFi loverWowsers, I really liked this one. First book Fanfuckingtastic. Don't like the word, don't read the book it's used plenty. Baltsaros and Tom are both hard to like as they both do and say things you want to kill them for. Still Jon is taken with Baltisaros and then with Tom for his own twisted upbringing and reasons. All are screwed up, the two kill without remorse, the captain even seems to be calmed by it. Seemed more realistic than the HR pirate books I've read by a long shot. Still, it is hard to like them, yet in the end... I kinda did... at least I think I liked Tom. I kinda feel that Baltsaros needs to die in the end. And Jon... well sweet Jon is changing but I think he'll still be the good guy in the end.I hear the 2nd book is better than the first but I cannot imagine as the book, story and HEA is all there at the end. No need to go on unless like me you liked the characters and want to see where it goes. I hear there is a lot of Tom in the next book.First erotic novel I've read that was written by a man. Seemed more to the point and less touchy feely, but it was hot. The story and the emotions were great too.Disclaimer: mainly M/M sex lots, a little M/F-M and M/M/M scenes too. Definite violence including rough sex. Still the majority of the book is the story, not the sex... really.See all 47 customer reviews... Artisti/Bndi-Cetju - KOOSTE - Ketjujen koosteet ...
